Dear SHARCs,
I am currently at the EUDAT conference in Porto where the discussion on the
future of the EOSC hub and the open data science community is very
interesting.
Today, during a panel discussion in a plenary session, I had the
opportunity to bring at the attention of the community the importance of
envisioning (if not enforcing) data sharing mechanisms in order to create a
“market” for open data and open data e-infrastructures.
The intervention was much appreciated by the community and several people
approached me after the plenary session. A few also asked to join the IG
and of course I provided them with our IG link.
There was a general interest in the future outcomes of our group, in
particular from Kimmo Koski, Managing Director at CSC & EUDAT Coordinator.
This is just to make you aware that the relevance of our IG group is
perceived as extremely high.
The community understands that without serious rewarding mechanisms at
higher level (policy and decision making) there are scarce possibilities to
mainstream e-infrastructures such as EOSC, because sharing comes with costs
and risks that are currently not sufficiently rewarded.
We are on the good track, thus keep up the good work!
Greetings from Porto,
