What would be the best mechanism for working through this process?
Here is an overview of how I think of the RDA DFT effort. It is a
federated approach with individual groups, but can work in several
potential ways depending on the maturity of the effort and complexity
involved.
If things are simple enough, contained and the group has lost of the right
resources, you may readily develop definitions wholly within your effort
and use the DFT IG and tool as a place to store your results.
So as an RDA WG you may keep track of your conceptual definitions as part
of your process and if you chose pass some of them as terms for DFT as
whole and/or as your group product. The tool allows you to define the SCOPE
of the terms so they can just be for your group of more broadly for RDA.
You can enter these into the Term tool or pass them to us to do that.
Eventually you will get comments such as at Plenaries and/or when the WG
finishes your/their products.
A more interactive & iterative way is to engage the DFT IG as part of
development before product completion which would expose some drafts to the
wider RDA audience and become part of a discussion process. This seems
useful when the concepts are difficult and also have obvious connections to
other RDA groups and/or external groups. If you want to start a
conversation on a set of terms you can announce this as part of a posting
like this or to the DFT IG/WG. Let me know if you want help with this,
this is part of what I consider my DFT co-chair role.
It is also the case that the previous DFT effort will have considered some
of the related or actual terms and have some ideas of how to include and
connect these to extant concepts. This is obviously a dynamic thing as
progress is made.
