Perhaps not so fast…
Remember all the discussions that arose in the IPR community when cheap copying (“Xeroxing”) came about….that was in part the main issue of “fair use.”
So today, nobody really “xeroxes”….instead we scan into PDF (or TIFF, or JPEG) files which can be in turn translated very accurately into editable files with even the cruddiest OCR software. This is easy, cheap, and leads to just the kind of documents we are discussing.
Now that is something that we may want to spend some time thinking about.
