Dear Gail, all;
Please find attached what for now is the FINAL and CLEAN version of the Implementation Guidelines.
Gail: thanks very much for working on this, this weekend. This is the definitive version to use for the pdf
Further edits
I have made some further edits throughout the text, on occasion typos, interventions to improve the English, etc. I can share the tracked version if you wish, but I have had to make further changes to this clean version so I would prefer not to share two different versions at this stage.
Highlighting
In the hope of helping Gail, I have tried to indicate (highlight turquoise) where there is a reference and link needed to a endnotes section. Some of these are simple references, others series of examples with a little discussion. I’m not sure we benefit by distinguishing between these.
This raises the question of how we deal with simple URL links as references. Do we use the same system e.g. (Reference) (=link to URL) or do we just use hyperlinks or have the URL in the text… I’ll leave that decision to Gail as she works on the pdf.
I have highlighted internal links in Yellow.
I have highlighted areas still needing work, generally references, in Green.
Appendices
Most of the lists of examples given in many sections. will be put into the end notes and linked.
The appendix for Principle One is is superfluous and I propose we should discard it.
I think we agreed that the possible appendix discussing the NISO and DPLA work was not sufficiently mature so I propose that this is not, for the time being, included.
One section which should be an appendix is the long set of numbered examples and discussion of mechanisms for harmonisation. This is too long to be in the text and probably too long to be an end note, so I have put it in the Appendix.
Finally, the list of metadata schema with ‘rights’ elements is useful. It is of a length where I am unsure whether it should be an endnote or an appendix. I have for the time being put it in the appendix.
With very best wishes,
Simon.
