    To members of the CODATA-RDA Legal Interoperability IG and attendees of the IG’s Session at the RDA’s 6th Plenary in Paris;
    Thank you very much for your participation in the meeting in Paris – despite Paul’s being taken ill, I felt that we had some very useful and constructive discussions. I am following up with a reminder of actions.
    Membership: If you are not a member of the IG and would like to be involved as we finalise outputs towards the next RDA Plenary meeting in Tokyo, please consider signing up to the IG at https://rd-alliance.org/groups/rdacodata-legal-interoperability-ig.html
    Principles: The Group has produced a set of ‘Legal Interoperability Principles for Research Data’ https://rd-alliance.org/group/rdacodata-legal-interoperability-ig/wiki/l… – these were presented at P5 in San Diego.
    Implementation Guidelines: Subsequently, the Group has been working on ‘Implementation Guidelines for the Principles on the Legal Interoperability of Research Data’. The latest draft is now in a Google Doc at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gXiMR6QKRGQhIIP0Er2FdX7U3C9fHfbQGcyS
    The ‘Implementation Guidelines’ will be completed and finalised in time to be published at RDA P7 in Tokyo in March 2016.
    Schedule for Work and Request for Comments: The schedule for this work is as follows:
    Group work on the current draft, by 19 October: Please could participants in the session and the broader group make comments in the Google doc before start of business on Monday 19 October.
    In the same period, i.e. before start of business on Monday 19 October, authors responsible for particular sections should edit and update their sections to ensure we have a complete, near final version ready for editing.
    Editing for Consistency, by 6 November: Editing for consistency will commence from Monday 19 October. Paul will lead this off and when he has given it a first pass others may contribute in series, when Paul ‘passes the baton’. The objective here is to ensure a consistency of language and use of key concepts and overall editorial coherence.
    Group Calls, from 6 November: We will resume group calls from 6 November, with the objective of targeting any remaining issues and collectively ensuring that the final editing has me our objectives.
    Distribution of Final Draft for Endorsement, early December: The final draft should be ready by early December to go through the ‘approval’ / ‘endorsement’ processes among the CODATA and RDA communities. For CODATA the document will be circulated among the Executive Committee and Data Policy Committee. For RDA, the document will be made open for community comment. I understand that we need to contact Rainer Stotzka to put this process in place.
    Final Document Published February 2016: Any final edits and polishing in response to feedback will be made in late January, so that the final public version of the ‘Implementation Guidelines’ can be published and distributed at P7 in Tokyo.
    Thank you very much for your participation in and contributions to this valuable work.
    With very best wishes,
    Simon.

    Thanks Simon, I´ve been this past week with different issues all around the US and just returned this morning. The Schedule is perfect. Let´s try to nail this down as planned. It was a pleasure to meet the rest of you in Paris.
    Enrique
