    Dear Bernard,
I am sceptical concerning the approach making personal data property that
    can be traded.
In any case the approach cannot replace statutory regulations safeguarding
privacy because making personal data property does not ensure that the
    current malpractice is reduced.
Possibly to the contrary a situation could arise in which there no more
limits to what can be done with personal information that was bought because
regulating what can be done with property will be interpreted as infringing
    the right of property.
    Regards,
    Christoph

In the Los Angeles Times today. It addresses the same class of issues that
we are discussing, just for every day life instead of scientific data. Note
the reference to European privacy laws.
