Re: [rdaeu-sustainability] Next version of the RDA Europe Sustainability Task Force…

    Fotis,
    Thanks for the excellent document. I am not sure I agree with Silvana that the money in RDA Europe 4 (cascading grants) add much to the (long term) sustainability of RDA or RDA In Europe. I think it is great if the EC supports the idea of experts with 750keuro but is this adding something to the sustainability? Perhaps the cascading grants could be mentioned on a more general level?
    Thanks,
    /leif

    Thanks Leif, Silvana,
    Re. the cascading grants there is already a reference in the RDA Europe 4 section. We can improve it and include this as a possible way to stimulate the community (rather than sustainability point). But we can reflect on this in the next round and see what the opinions on this from others are.
    Thanks again for all your contributions and see some of you in cold Brussels next week!
    Kind regards,
    Fotis

    Thank you Fotis for weaving in all the relevant points discussed where possible.
    One relevant consideration to add if we all agree, is about the opportunity of available additional funds awarded through the open calls of the cascading grant model introduced under rda Europe 4 where circa 750k€ is set aside for grants, not little money, to also experts amount – this, in my opinion, should be added to the section 4.3.5 when you refer to role of individual members supporting who work ‘non-Funded’ outside of usual remit of work –
    This is clearly a positive sign of expertise being funnelled under RDA and where the expertise can be developed, implemented under RDA and there is a win win for the individual, whether he/ she is receiving backing or not from the individual organisation.
    Obtaining both funds & recognition for his or work being carried out & showing this publicly is also in line with primary recommendations coming out of the Eosc HLEG findings- the data scientist is being recognised for their individual work.
    Under FP9 i am of the understanding that the cascading grant model will be used more & more often to facilitate a more open process & capitalise in externals not necessarily past of the core consortia.
    Thank you for the work done.
    Best wishes
    Silvana

    Dear all,
    I have tried to integrate the vast majority of the comments raised. I attach the document in two versions as usual:
    * With tracked changes and comments (based on Peter’s version)
    * A clean version.
    The main changes are the following:
    * Added an executive summary
    * Rewritten the Conclusions and Recommendations section (reworked also the recommendations so that this section is not empty)
    * Took into account individual comments from Leif, Peter and Silvana.
    * Made some other minor edits and updates
    I think that the document is in good shape and following our decision in the last meeting the document will be sent to RDA Council (via Ingrid). I will also plan to share it with the RDA Secretariat.
    I would like to apologise that it was not possible to circulate it earlier. In case you have some immediate comments, please let me know. In any case, it is still a draft -work in progress document, and this is clearly labeled in the first page and also the Executive Summary.
    I would like to thank you for all your contributions and reviews, and I believe this is a satisfactory result, of a first full draft.
    Kind regards,
    Fotis
