    Dear all;
I am now finding time to get through some of the actions I had from our last call. I have drafted and shared with Mark a text which can be used for Sloane and Moore.
I have also drafted the attached, which I propose to send to Wenbo and Barb at GEO in response to the former’s inquiry about GEO being ‘a co-organizer, co-sponsor or whatever role suitable’.
I think we agreed that I would share this and I would be grateful for your views and input on the tone and language. Although I have not been able to do this earlier, I shall nevertheless exercise the barefaced cheek to request that you get back to me promptly with any suggestions so that I can send this to Wenbo and Barb on Monday at the latest (in good time for my being in Geneva later next week) 😉
    With very best wishes,
    Simon.

This is good, Simon. Only two thoughts.
One, I think we are being overly modest in estimating 500-700 participants. That makes sense for budgeting, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to say 700-1000 when trying to build excitement. (Same goes fro the Sloan?moore letter)
Two, do we need to introduce detailed ideas of in-kind support at this stage? Best to ask for cash and then fall back on in-kind in negotiations as needed. That said, I do think it is good to mention the idea of travel support for LMC folk. That is cash. It’s just targeted cash.
oh and there is a stray comma after “event’ in the 3rd paragraph.
    cheers,
    -m.

    Hi Simon,
Thanks for this, it reads very well. I particularly like the section
highlighting the fact that the 3 convening organizations are GEO
    participating organizations.
Mark is right that we should probably aim for a monetary contribution first
and leave the in-kind contribution as a fall back to be negotiated in
details later when you meet in Geneva.
Also, as you use the plural ‘we’, I would suggest to start the first
paragraph as follows: “On behalf of the convening organizations (RDA,
CODATA and WDS), I am writing in response to…”
    Best wishes.

    Dear all,
Please find attached a version of the GEO letter that I have adapted in line with comments received. I also attach the Sloane Moore document that I have adapted also.
I’d like to send these off early afternoon European time, so if I could have any further comments by then, that would be great.
Bernard: had you not received the GEO letter?
    Best wishes,
    Simon.
