Yolanda MelecoMemberHi Fran. Baltimore is still an option. We agreed that it was still important to have other options, however, which is why we’re now looking at Denver and other areas.

All,
What happened to the Baltimore option in October? That would be considerably more acceptable to the RDA folks than December. With twice yearly plenaries, we can’t really go that far out.

Hi all,
Thanks for sending round the call details, Mustapha.
Matt sent an update e-mail to Yolanda and myself on Thursday evening (European time). At that point, he had just one concrete proposal from the Denver area:
The proposal came from the Hyatt Regency in the Denver Tech Center region. The hotel is located about 10 miles south of downtown Denver. Mark Parsons is not too familiar with the area, but did not think that there was much for guests to do outside of the hotel. The hotels website can be seen here: http://techcenter.hyatt.com/en/hotel/home.html
Matt also wrote:
Per Mark’s advice we also looked into availability in various towns just outside of downtown Denver (accessible via the light rail system). Nearly all of the hotels are too small, and the larger ones do not have availability.
He was waiting to here from Chicago venues and said he would follow up with these by phone. For various reasons, I was unable to follow up with Matt on Friday. I have written to him now but I’m not sure that we will hear something more by the time of our call.
Some of the CODATA US folk have suggested early December in DC. The thinking being that DC would be more of a draw than Baltimore and that the inconvenience of pre-! or post- election probably balance out. We would need to avoid CNI and AGU so week commencing 5 Dec suggests itself. What do you think? My view is that in the absence a a host of options, we need to try alternatives: I have asked Matt to sound out the most obvious venues.
Best wishes,
Simon.

Just checking on the results of discussions with Matt and any closer to finding a venue for IDW? I assume we are not having a telecon on Oct 5th?

Simon HodsonMemberHi all,
Yes, the suggestion is not intended to rule out Baltimore as an option. I am reporting, however, that some CODATA US folk think Baltimore is not so much of a draw and that after the election may be better in terms of fed availability. I am simply suggesting this for the mix and think we should weigh the pros and cons. If this is definitively too late for an RDA Plenary then it wonโt work.
Best wishes,
Simon.
