The following may be of interest to this group: Today, Ithaka S+R published a new issue brief, Data Communities: A New Model for Supporting STEM Data Sharing. In this brief, my colleague Danielle Cooper and I build on Ithaka S+R’s ongoing research into scholarly practices to argue that successful data sharing happens within data communities, informal networks of scholars who share and use a certain type of data. Drawing on the examples of three successful data communities, the brief concludes with actionable recommendations for funders, professional societies, publishers, information technologists, digital curation experts, and academic libraries to support STEM research data sharing.
