Dear Data Policy standardisation and implementation IG members,
We’re pleased to share with you a report from our inaugural – official – IG meeting at the RDA in April.
    Please see:
    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GiJI7kJA3MgDvJyC9zw-zHIbg3n2azhN16W_
Thanks to those of you who were able to attend – the room was around 90% full.
As agreed at the meeting, the co-chairs have discussed the critical issue of scope of the IG, whether we should focus on just the policies of journals and publishers or whether we should aim to establish a framework for data policy that also encompasses the needs of other stakeholders’ – funders, institutions, infrastructure providers – data policies. The co-chairs have agreed that:
    * Data policy (broadly) will be the remit of the IG but we assume journal and funder policy will be of most immediate interest, and:
    * Journal/publisher policy will be our initial focus as we can make progress quickly, building on the work of Jisc and Springer Nature
    * We will identify and communicate what is learned around funder policy from work in this area we also seek leaders/coordinators from you, the IG members, to form a funder policy work-stream
o Please email the co-chairs or this group if you would like to volunteer to lead a funder policy activity or have comments on this approach
We see this, organisationally, working well with the RDA structure as we can form work-streams/working groups, in due course, around these more focused areas. As such, journal policy will be the focus of our first community call/requirements gathering exercise.
We are targeting mid-July for our first community call where we will aim to gather requirements for data policy of journals/publishers. We hope many of you can participate. More information on the call soon.
We will also be revising and resubmitting our group statement and objectives in light of its review by the RDA committee.
    Kind regards,
    Iain Hrynaszkiewicz
