• ELN Guide and Finder (Birte Lindstädt, ZB Med in Cologne)
  • The ELN Guide assists in the selection and planning of the implementation process. Its intention is to make the process of selecting and introducing a suitable ELN tool tailored to the individual requirements and support of both researchers and information infrastructure managers. In addition to basic knowledge, the introduction of various tools is illustrated using best practice examples.
    For selecting a fitting ELN tool also the ELN Finder is under developement. The ELN Finder becomes a web service that helps in the selection of an ELN: Over 40 filter criteria are available. The filter criteria are in turn clearly divided into categories. The result list of the ELN tools identified is displayed in an overview and contains brief descriptions of the individual tools.
• Engineering LIMS for Microscopy (June Lau and Josh Taillon,  US NIST) – SLIDES
  • We will be presenting NexusLIMS, the LIMS in place for NIST electron microscopy community. We will provide a background on institutional data infrastructure, facility policies, and user behaviors that have driven design decisions. We will show how we navigated challenges such as propriety data formats, and adapted to diverse user workflow practices. We will show how the system is working now and planned upgrades for the future.

• eLabFTW (Nicolas Carpi, Deltablot)

• KaDi4Mat (Michael Selzer, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology)
  • Kadi4Mat is supposed to support a close cooperation between experimenters, theorists and simulators, especially in materials science, and enable the acquisition of new knowledge and the development of novel materials. This is made possible by employing a modular and generic architecture, which allows to cover the specific needs of different scientists, each utilizing unique workflows. At the same time, this opens up the possibility to easily branch out into other disciplines in the future.

• ELNs for bespoke experiments in engineering education (Manuela Richter, TU Darmstadt)
  • Laboratory journals were and are the most important documentation tool, especially for standardised experiments. But are they really FAIR? A laboratory book for bespoke experiments is not a single software solution. It is rather a concept that enables fair data management, given a toolbox with the approapriate tools.
• ELNs in engineering teaching (Florian Strauß, TU Clausthal)
  • Teaching RDM basics in an early career phase should ease the transition into good scientific practice when joining a lab later on. The talk will present three examples of ELN usage in engineering lab courses. Here the software is used as a possibility to achieve this goal with a hands-on approach and without the need to modify curricula.

• Biosystems LIMS (John Elliott, US NIST)
  • At the National Institute of Standards and Technology, a LIMS architecture has been developed to support a tiered model ranging from core services and infrastructure to subject matter expertise with community solutions. This presentation will cover modernization of Biosciences with data science and LIMS enable bioengineering workflows and data analytics.
• RSpace (Rory Macneil, RSpace; Robert Kossen, Universität Göttingen)
  • RSpace ELN is designed around open principles, enabling connectivity with other tools and resources and the flexibility to support diverse workflows.  Deep integration with the RSpace Inventory management module enables association of experimental and sample data and metadata.

• Research Data Management with FURTHRmind – Taking Research one Step FURTHR (Daniel Menne, FurthRresearch)
  Research data management is essential for the quality of our research, yet we very often observe how rudimentary research data is treated.
