Meeting title: Initial Breakout Session for the DTR2 WG, a Continuation of DTR
Please give a short introduction describing the activities and the scope of the group
Interpretation and use of scientific datasets by those that are not engaged in the creation or production of those datasets is pivotal for enabling science that is driven by data. RDA has made significant progress in addressing this issue through the initial Data Type Registries (DTR) WG, which has now finished, but much remains to be done, hence the DTR2 group was formed and this is its initial Plenary Breakout meeting.
Please provide additional links to informative material related to your group i.e. group page, Case statement, working documents etc
As background attendees may wish to consult earlier DTR work including
• Data Type Registries Working Group Output
• DTR2 Case Statement
• The overall RDA DTR group page, including links to various Plenary presentations
Please list the meeting objectives
We will review the current state of affairs, summarize existing efforts across RDA and solicit feedback on the group plans. Depending on the timing of this session, it may also be possible to summarize the multiple joint sessions involving DTR2 that will likely have been scheduled for this Plenary.
Meeting agenda
1. Short introduction of the issues for those new to the group
2. Summary of related efforts, including presentations from groups currently pursuing type registries, including but not limited to
2A. The German Climate Center (DKRZ)
2B. CSIRO Australia
2C. EUDAT
3. Discussion of similarities and differences across the use cases
4. Discussion of how best to meet the goals of the DTR2 Case Statement

Audience: Please specify who is your target audience and how they should prepare for the meeting
All P8 attendees who are interested in and/or actively pursuing use of data typing in research data management are encouraged to join this breakout. The purpose of DTR2 is to take the broad and now widely accepted notion of uniquely identified and precisely defined and registered data types at multiple levels of granularity and focus on deriving common principles and approaches from multiple use cases across a wide variety of domains. The best preparation for the meeting is to read the DTR output document, the DTR2 Case Statement, and, if appropriate to your situation, be prepared to discuss your existing or potential use case.
