Joshua Finnell leads research and instruction initiatives in the University Libraries at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, with a focus on data policy, infrastructure, and training. He is currently a member of the research computing group at Colgate and is in the process of forming the New York 6 Research Data Initiative – a consortium of liberal arts colleges interested in developing research data services. He currently serves on the steering committee for the DMPTool and is a member of the Figshare Institutional Repository Advisory Group, and he has served on the planning committee for both the Digital Library Forum and the Research Data Access & Preservation Summit. He joined RDA at P8 in Denver and is a member of the Active Data Management Plans IG, Big Data IG, Repository Platforms for Research Data IG, Education and Training on Handling of Research Data IG, and Long Tail of Research Data IG. Previous to Colgate, Joshua worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, Denison University in Ohio, and the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Given his range of experiences across institutions, Joshua is particularly interested in expanding the discussion in L4RD to include liberal arts colleges as they begin grappling with research data services and infrastructure. Joshua holds an AB in Philosophy and an MLA in Liberal Arts from Washington University in St. Louis and an MS in Information and Library Science from the University of Illinois.
