Dr. Noël Conruyt is Associate Professor in computer science at the LIM Mathematics and Informatics Laboratory, University of Reunion Island, Saint-Denis of La Réunion (South West of Indian Ocean). He is involved in the applied part of the computer science team. Before joining Reunion Island University in 1994, he made a Ph.D. at INRIA Paris-Rocquencourt and University of Paris IX Dauphine in machine learning and symbolic-numeric data analysis applied to the knowledge management of specialists in biology. Noël Conruyt is also an engineer in agronomy and a classical guitar player from the Regional Music Conservatoire of Reunion Island. Noël Conruyt research interests lie in knowledge engineering and human computer interaction with an emphasis on co-design and social aspects of computing. He manages a team of computer scientists and developers in this area called IC-IHM. He is particularly interested in user-centered approaches applied to environmental management for sustainable development, for example information and communication technologies for insular tropical environment enhancement. He is also involved in knowledge transmission and sharing applied to artistic music education, as for instrumental guitar or piano e-learning.
