Gabor Remetey-Fülöpp

Graduated and postgraduated as Civil Engineer in Surveying and Automation in Geodesy at the Budapest Technical University in 1968. After excercised in topographic field work and computer aided design in water management he joined the Institute of Geodesy, Cartography and Remote Sensing (FÖMI) in 1980 and became Head of the Image Processing Laboratory of the Remote Sensing Center. Invited to the Department of Land Administration and Geoinformation at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in 1986. Some of his schoolarships include Rijkswaterstaat, ITC and the Delft University of Technology in 1974, IIT Bombay, ISRO SAC and NRSA in India in 1986, ESA Alpbach Summer School in 1989, USDA RSRL, NASS and SCS in (1992), civil servant trainingship at the DG Information Technology of the European Commission in 1994. After 1986 he served as ministerial chief counsellor in GIS/LIS/RS, as desk officer of tasks related to the cadastral informatics and euroatlantic integration with special emphasis on EU Phare supported land management related developments, institutional upgrade associated with the EU accession and international bilateral R+D works with India, USA, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, the World Bank and FAO till his retirement in 2006; His volunteer activities include: Secretary General, Hungarian Association for Geo-information (HUNAGI) since 1994.; Past and present memberships in Hungarian Society of Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing, 1971- (received Life membership in 2007); National Geographic Society 1971-; Hungarian Astronautical Society; Member of the RS and Geoinformatics Subcommittees of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences; Member of Bureau, UNECE Working Party of Land Administration, 2005-2006; Editorial Advisory Board, GIM International 1992-; Editorial Advisory Board, Int'l Journal SDI Research, 2006-; Hungarian National GEO Board, 2005-; Advisory Committee, Board of Directors and Secretary, GSDI Association 1998-2008; INSPIRE Expert Group of the European Commission, 2001-2006; Permanent Committee on Cadastre in the EU, 2005-2006; Liasion between GSDI Association and CEOS WGISS, 2006-; President, ISPRS Commission VII Resources and Environmental Monitoring, 1996-2000; Co-Chair, ISPRS WG VII/4 Human Settlements and Impact Analysis, 2000-2004; Co-Chair, ISPRS WG IV/1 Spatial Data Infrastructure, 2004-2006; Head, UNSDI Hungarian Coordination Office 2006-; Reviewer, EU Humboldt Project 2007-; Principal Designator in GEO on behalf of GSDI Association 2007-2009; Member of the ExCom of the European Umbrella Organisation for Geographic Information 1988-2005 and 2006-2010. He was involved in the organisation of more than a dozen significant international conferences including ESA Earthnet Workshop (1986), Satellite RS Conference (1988) the annual GIS/LIS for Central Europe (1993-1996), ISPRS Commission VII Symposium (1998), 4th GIS Workshop of the European Commission (1998), CERCO General Assembly (1995), UNECE MOLA/WPLA Workshops on land-related topics (1996, 1999 and 2005), 1st Workshop on Cadastre of the European Commission, GSDI-6 (2002), CEOS WGISS/WGCV (2002) and WGISS 32 (2011) as well as the annual HUNAGI Conferences (2010-2013), 1st EULF Workshop, 1st ESA-EUROGI Copernicus MPP Workshop, all in Budapest, Hungary. Became member of the Programme Committee of the Digital Earth Summit 2008. Member of the National Committee of the International Year of the Planet Earth 2008-2010. Invited correspondent to PSI Platform 2009-. National Team leader, EU FP7 LAPSI project. Invited Guest Editor, Geocarto International, Hungarian Issue (2013 April). Member, ISDE Working Group on Digital Earth Vision 2020. Outcame has been published by the Proceedings of the American National Academy of Sciences. Founding member of NASA World Wind Europa Challenge (2013-2014) Acknowledged by the Nagy Erno Medal of the National Astronautical Society (in 1987), Fasching Medal from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (2004), Medal for the Hungarian Informatics (2005), FAO Medal (2006) and Medal for Agroinformatics in 2007. Member of the Hungarian Space Research Council. Editorial Board member IJoSDIR (2008-2014), IJDE (2009-2014), IJAgroinformatics and Advisory Board member of GIM International.
