Erwin L Roggen

Dr. Erwin Roggen obtained a degree in Biochemistry at the University of Antwerp in 1984. Throughout the years he acquired knowledge and expertise in the areas of protein chemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology and cell biology. As Science Manager at Novozymes, Dr. Roggen has been involved for over 18 years in development, implementation, dissemination and acceptance of alternative methods to animal testing: among others as coordinator of the FP6 Project Sens-it-iv (www.sens-it-iv.eu) (2005-2011). He acquired an extensive experience in management of (immune-) toxicological and pharmacological R&D projects, and development and implementation of 3Rs strategies for early decision-making and risk assessment. He started 3Rs Management and Consulting ApS (www.3RsMC.eu) focussing on the refinement, implementation and application of 3Rs strategies in general, and of replacement strategies in particular. One of the objectives of 3RsMC is to drive the implementation and application of promising animal-free tools by industry and regulatory authorities. Finally, he is active in several national (e.g. Danish 3Rs Center), European (e.g. EPAA, ESAC, IVTIP) and global (e.g. OECD) organizations active in the area of the 3Rs.
