Dr. Yung Shin VAN DER SYPE is specialised in privacy and data protection law, IT contracts and corporate security. She advises national and international clients from various sectors, ranging from heavy industry actors to social media and health care providers. In this context, she provides all kinds of GDPR services such as training courses, assists clients in reporting data breaches, acts as Data Protection Officer (DPO), and assists companies and organizations with investigations by data protection authorities. She also drafts various types of GDPR agreements, such as agreements for transfers of personal data to countries outside the EU, processor agreements, privacy policies, cookie policies, etc. She has particular expertise in advising companies on HR-related questions of privacy and data protection law, such as camera surveillance and monitoring and tracking of employees. Yung Shin was a doctoral researcher at the Interdisciplinary Center for Law and ICT (ICRI) (now known as the Centre for IT & IP Law (CiTiP)) at the University of Leuven, where she specialized in privacy and data protection law. In 2017 she obtained a PhD in Law with a thesis on privacy protection of employees, entitled "Towards integrated privacy protection of employees in the company. A legal analysis of the principle of compatibility from the personal data protection right at work" (in Dutch), published by Wolters Kluwer. Since obtaining her PhD, Yung Shin is still connected to the Centre for IT & IP Law of the University of Leuven, where she teaches IT law. As a researcher she still contributes to various kinds of books and articles about privacy and data protection law and corporate safety. Yung Shin is also a member of the editorial committee of the law journal Privacy & Informatie and of the magazine Sociaalrechtelijke Kronieken (Social Law Chronicles) and she is a member of the board of the Vereniging Sociaal Recht (Social Law Association).
