Arti Ahluwalia is Full Professor at the Department of Information Engineering, University of Pisa. She is also Director of the Bioengineering and Robotics Research Center E. Piaggio. Since 2018 she is also Director of the 3R Center, the inter-university center dedicated to the promotion of teaching and research in the 3R of animal experimentation. Her research activities concern biomedical technologies for development and she is involved in numerous projects and activities in Africa. He is currently a consultant for the UNECA (United Nations Economic Commission for Africa) as part of a project for the development of human resources in Biomedical Engineering in sub-Saharan countries and has contributed to the creation of the consortium "Africa Biomedical Engineering Consortium" (www.abec-africa.org), dedicated to improving health in Africa through the training of biomedical engineers. Furthermore, she coordinates the group "In-vitro Models Group", which focuses on biomimetics and the interaction between the biological and artificial world for the realization of in-vitro bio-hybrid systems through the integration of engineering technologies (biomaterials, fluid systems, microscopy, biomechanics, biosensors). Author of over 100 peer-reviewed papers in international scientific journals, she has participated in numerous projects both as coordinator and as principal investigator.
