Steve Austin

I am a proud Yued Noongar from Western Australia. I have had over 10 years experience working within and with Indigenous communities. My family has always had a connection to health and medicine. It was only natural that I would go on to study something in that field. Following graduation from the University of WA with a B Sc, I took a position at the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Both growing up and through my studies I saw the impact poor data availability had on Indigenous programs. I saw successful community programs fail to get funding and policies developed on deficit data. In the Indigenous Engagement and Census Engagement role I worked with community to raise awareness of data already available and the importance of accurate data.
