Marianne Corvellec has worked in industry as a data scientist and a software developer since 2013. Since then, she has also been involved with the Carpentries, pursuing interests in community outreach, education, and assessment. She is both a practitioner and a thinker when it comes to shaping the definition and purpose of data science (e.g., https://datacarpentry.org/blog/2017/12/data-science-assessment-challenges). She speaks or teaches at local and international events on a regular basis. She is an advocate of free software and open standards. She holds a PhD in statistical physics from École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, France (2012).
