After joining the Met Office in 1989 I worked initially in nowcasting using weather radar data before moving to the Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research. I joined CEDA (Centre for Environmental Data Analysis) in 2003 as a researcher, before moving to my current role supporting standards for data exchange and interoperability in the atmospheric and climate science community. In that role I have particular responsibility for the controlled vocabularies within the CF (Climate-Forecast) metadata conventions. I also present CEDA training events on IT skills and data management, aimed at PhD students and early career researchers.
