Dr. Corey Smith serves as the Director of Science and Applied Informatics for the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board and is the Senior Epidemiologist for the Great Plains Tribal Epidemiology Center. Dr. Smith provides scientific leadership and technical expertise to initiatives aimed at developing and expanding the research and public health capacity of the Tribal nations and communities served through the Health Board. A primary focus of these activities is the development and application of strategies that address the complex informatics challenges associated with the prevention and management of critically important public health problems in the region. After obtaining the Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology, Dr. Smith went on to earn the Master of Health Sciences and PhD degrees in public mental health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed his formal education as a National Library of Medicine postdoctoral fellow in health sciences informatics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. Dr. Smith is a Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems in the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. He currently resides in Rapid City, South Dakota with his wife and two daughters.
