I am a technology lawyer and privacy professional. I have been a top level officer at the "Garante", the Italian Data Protection Autority, for 7 years, heading various legal departments, including that supervising marketing activities and international data transfers. While at the Privacy Authority I have been Italy’s representative at the European Commission within the activities of Art. 29 WP, involved in subgroups on BCR, SCC, SH, APIS/PNR, IMI. From 1996 through 2001 I was in private practice with Baker & McKenzie in Rome. I have served both as Secretary General of the Italian Commission on Environmental Impact Assessment (Commissione VIA) and as a Commissioner of the same. I have authored and edited more than 150 publications, including books, articles and collections. I have graduated at the School of Law of Rome University of Rome “La Sapienza” and specialised at the School of Law of the University of Warwick, UK, and at the London School of Economics and Political Science, UK. I am currently member of the Board of Directors of the IAPP (International Association Privacy Professionals) and I am the Secretary General of the ICF (Italian Compliance Forum). I have been the legal advisor of the Italian Government on Ultra BroadBand and Internet. As a lawyer, I am ranked amongst leaders by Chambers Europe, the Legal500, TopLegal, Who's Who Legal. I have received the Legalcommunity TMT Award as Best Privacy Lawyer 2015.
