Andrea Medina-Smith is a Metadata Librarian at the National Institute of Standards and Technology's Research Library in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Her expertise is in massaging metadata into useful and diverse schema. Before being called a librarian she was the Digital Archivist for the Jewish Women's Archive where she did the same sort of work with older records and oral histories. She has an M.S. in Library Science with a concentration in Archives Management from Simmons College and a B.A. from the University of California, Santa Cruz in European History. Her research interest run toward the use of social media to promote collections, digital curation and preservation, and all things data management.
