Thematic Services, Training, Governance and Long Term Data Preservation towards the European Open Science Cloud: Two RDA VP17 Co-located Events not to be Missed

The ESFRI Clusters at RDA House of Commons
19 April 11.00-14.00 UTC

One and a half years after the RDA session in Helsinki, the five ESFRI cluster projects (EOSC-Life, ENVRI-FAIR, ESCAPE, PaNOSC and SSHOC),  FAIRsFAIR, the RDA community, and European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) representatives come together again, to discuss the past, present and future of their collaboration during the journey of integrating thematic services into EOSC.  We want to beat your Zoom fatigue and engage you in a spiked house-of-commons styled debate moderated by Science communicator Martijn van Calmthout  on three pillar topics:

  • Thematic data services: “Metadata. Everyone thinks it's a great idea, but no-one wants to use someone else's”.

  • Connecting to end-user communities: “Onboarding the communities and end-users to EOSC still lacks a clear grassroot, bottom-up approach.”

  • Governance: “In the EOSC governance model, there is no clear link with disciplinary research communities”

Service R&D for Archiving and Preservation for Research Environments
19 April 14.00-16.00 UTC

The importance of long-term data preservation is underlined in the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). Nevertheless, it is not clearly specified how this aspect will be implemented or provided, considering that long-term preservation is not yet part of the EOSC service portfolio. ARCHIVER is  the only EOSC-related H2020 project focusing on archiving and long-term data preservation, providing the research community with archiving and preservation services for petabyte scale datasets across multiple research domains and countries.

The "Service R&D for Archiving and Preservation for Research Environments" event will provide interactive demos of the innovative digital archiving and preservation solutions that are being developed by the ARCHIVER contractors led by the IT companies Arkivum, LIBNOVA, and T-Systems,in a number of domains and fields of applications, including High Energy Physics, Life Sciences, and Astrophysics.
