  • After the 12th plenary in Gaborone, in November 2018, 5 new  Technical Advisory Board (TAB) members will be elected to replace the 4 TAB members whose terms have expired. There are 9 continuing TAB members, so TAB will increase in size from 13 to 14 members. Information on the current TAB members and when their terms expire is on the TAB page.
  • The list of candidates for the 5 places on TAB is at https://rd-alliance.org/tab-elections-2018-candidate-details.
  • The TAB election process is described in more detail in the TAB Election Process document
  • There are two balancing criteria:
    • Region - between 2-6 for each region (Europe / Africa, Americas, Asia / Oceania).
    • Discipline - between 0-5 for each discipline (Natural sciences, Engineering and technology, Medical and health sciences, Agricultural sciences, Social sciences, Humanities).

For a full description of the election process and balancing criteria, please see the TAB Election Process document.

  • The potential impact of the balancing criteria on the TAB elections 2018 is explained in the tables below. Areas highlighted in yellow are where balancing criteria may have an impact.
  • Table 1 shows the impact of balancing for region on the TAB election. As there are more European candidates than there are available slots for Europeans on TAB, a maximum of 2 (out of 3) European candidates can be elected.

Table 2 shows that there are enough slots for all candidates’ disciplines, so there will be no need to balance for discipline.
