Dear RDA Community,
I am truly honoured and delighted to have been selected as the next Secretary General of the Research Data Alliance, an amazing initiative that has always been close to my heart and within which I have been involved since its launch in 2013. I am very grateful to my predecessors - Mark Parsons and Ingrid Dillo - for their passion, leadership, and drive as Secretary General.
RDA is a unique and innovative platform with you, the members, discussing and working hard to identify solutions to the urgent research data interoperability challenges that all of society face today. Solutions and outputs that mirror the RDA guiding principles: Openness, Consensus, Balance, Harmonisation, Community driven and non-profit. These principles are at the heart of my approach as Secretary General, to focus on fostering and encouraging the business and the work of the alliance: the business in terms of organisational and financial sustainability and governance and the work in terms of community engagement, growth and consolidation, impact and assessment. You will hear more on this from me in Berlin at P11 and online for those unable to attend.
RDA has many, many achievements to date: its outputs, its vibrant international and diverse community, its broad and wide-ranging coverage of domains and topics. As the experts, you don't need me to tell you that the current landscape offers many challenges and exciting prospects for the Alliance. I look forward to supporting you, the Community, RDA's drivers and innovators, over the coming years and helping RDA maintain its essential role to support and facilitate excellent science, ensure that data generated as a result of publicly funded research is findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable and reproducible as well as foster a passionate and diligent community of data professionals across the globe.
I hope to see many of you in Berlin and thank you for your continued passion and enthusiasm for RDA, a fantastic community to work for and with.
