AW: [rda-datamanagplans] AW: [rda-datamanagplans] A short note on DMPs

by Matthias L. Hemmje

I agree that requirements towards expected resources are needed. Regarding complexity, this is correct. However, not every thing has to be done by operative „average“ researchers. There are different roles involved and a process model regarding these different actors and their responsibilities will help. Best regards Matthias Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias L. This is why versioning and contexutalization/inheriting is important. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias L. I support this but not only the creation should be supported but also the management and maintenance during execution as well as during access, dissemination and re-use. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias L. AW: [rda-datamanagplans] A short note on DMPs

by Matthias L. Hemmje

I fully support this as it descirbes the re-use case where a new research information life cycle is generated. That is why versioning and inheriting/import is of importance. However, if DMPs are published, it should be considered, wether this is only at the end of the project. If they are really active and adapt during execution, they have to be „public“ from the start and that is also meant by „active“, at elast from my point of view, they would be kind of „living objects“. AW: [rda-datamanagplans] A short note on DMPs

by Matthias L. Hemmje

That is why I have said it is multidimensional planning with late binding of resources. During the proposal the DMP has to comply with the funding framework. During kick-off and enactement, the early project has to comply with work plan and mangerial structures as finalized in the grant agreement and ist attachements, as e.g. DOW. During execution the DMP has to copmly with the available resources which have to be assigned in terms of infrastructure, services, and human resources. Best regards Matthias Prof. Dr.-Ing. I support this. This is, why we need versioning of such templates representing formal frameworks. In the case of EC funded projects it is quite often the case that because of „lessons learned“ during the course of a funding framework, policies are changed and therefore could even be contradictory to the past solutions. I think the DMP has to comply with the Grant, that is what the will want to see. Therefore, the DMP needs to be able to adapt to a template that complies with the grants funding framework’s formal policiy constraints. Therefore, templates may be powerful, as they can be re-used at least within the same funding frameworks, while the rest of the DMP can stay flexible as long as it is adapted to the policy template of the funding framework. AW: [rda-datamanagplans] A short note on DMPs

by Matthias L. Hemmje

I support this position. The grant framework is only initially relevant as it defines the formal framework at initial production time. During access and re-use time after archival, additional provenance information may be needed to complete the picture and therefore DMP will also have to consider provenance information of usage cycles before. Therefore, I kind of versioning support is also vital for being able to deal with dynamics and adapatation in an active, i.e. automatically supported way. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias L. Hemmje
