AW: [rda-datamanagplans] A short note on DMPs

by Matthias L. Hemmje

I support this. This is, why we need versioning of such templates representing formal frameworks. In the case of EC funded projects it is quite often the case that because of „lessons learned“ during the course of a funding framework, policies are changed and therefore could even be contradictory to the past solutions. AW: [rda-datamanagplans] A short note on DMPs

by Matthias L. Hemmje

I think the DMP has to comply with the Grant, that is what the will want to see. Therefore, the DMP needs to be able to adapt to a template that complies with the grants funding framework’s formal policiy constraints. Therefore, templates may be powerful, as they can be re-used at least within the same funding frameworks, while the rest of the DMP can stay flexible as long as it is adapted to the policy template of the funding framework. AW: [rda-datamanagplans] A short note on DMPs

by Matthias L. Hemmje

I support this position. The grant framework is only initially relevant as it defines the formal framework at initial production time. During access and re-use time after archival, additional provenance information may be needed to complete the picture and therefore DMP will also have to consider provenance information of usage cycles before. Therefore, I kind of versioning support is also vital for being able to deal with dynamics and adapatation in an active, i.e. automatically supported way. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Matthias L. Hemmje

AW: [rda-datamanagplans] A short note on DMPs

by Matthias L. Hemmje

This adresses only the question of cross-domain interdisciplinary support which of course comes into to mind very quickly. However, there is also the formal dimension where a mapping towards different funding schemes and their formal frameworks needs to be possible. Here a template based approach would be vary valuable, if it could build on former templates of DMP policies and regulations in the same funding frame work. The same holds true for work plans and infrastructures being executed and assigned dynamically at execution time as well

AW: [rda-datamanagplans] A short note on DMPs

by Matthias L. Hemmje

Dear Herman, thanks for this information and suggested approach. We are currently running a pilot in the area of DMP for European Commission funded projects. We think that these issues are highly demanding for the following reasons: DMP needs to be regarded on a variety of dimensions as it has a formal dimension, an organisational and managerial dimension as well as an opartional dimension. All of them are very dynamic in nature, highly domain specific depending on area of research and funding frameworks as well as available infrasdtructures.

A short note on DMPs

by Herman Stehouwer

Dear active-DMP group, Based on our recent activities with the European Infrastructures and several conversations we have created a very short (and rather pointed) note to kickstart some discussion on DMPs in general. One of the four points in this note is on the need for DMPs to be more active/adaptable. The plan is to turn this into an lively workshop around Q4/Q1 for the European discussion. I appreciate all comments, especially comments on the active/adaptable point.
