Dear RDA Finland members and/or spring meeting participants
While I compile the next RDA Finland newsletter, which will be out sometime before midsummer (i.e. juhannus), here are some urgent items for your information:
As the Finnish research data management landscape is maturing, questions of interoperability are becoming more concrete. Both national and international platforms are available for publication of research datasets, but the level of interoperability is often limited to generic metadata. The FAIR data principles raise issues that concern more complex requirements for data citation techniques and integration of the data itself.
RDA Europe 4.0 project is seeking applicants to become external evaluators for proposals to be funded by the project. RDA Europe 4.0 aims to have a pool of up to 30 external evaluators with differing expertise to support its decision-making processes for the award of RDA Europe grants.
External evaluators will operate remotely via a dedicated web interface. Performances will be paid using a daily rate of €400, with workload for each evaluation agreed in advance.
RDA Europe (https://rd-alliance.org/rda-europe) continues its series of support programmes for data researchers and practitioners and has opened two Calls to facilitate participation of 7 RDA Early Career Researchers and 5 Expert RDA members to the 13th RDA Plenary meeting in in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, US.
The Plenary is co-organised by RDA US and Drexel University and will be bringing together data professionals, researchers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs and policymakers from all disciplines and geographies.
Dear member of RDA Finland,
The national node meeting will be organized this time as a webinar on Thursday 29 November 13.00 – 15:00. Ville Tenhunen from University of Helsinki will give us the recent updates from the 12th RDA Plenary which was organized in Botswana and Henriikka Mustajoki from Federation of Finnish Learned Societies will tell us what is happing in the field of Open Science in Finland right now. The webinar is in English and it will be hosted by national node coordinator Irina Kupiainen, CSC – IT Center for Science Ltd.
See the recording and slides from the event here.
Inspired by the Research Data Alliance (RDA) national node meeting in June, we have invited Hilary Hanahoe, Secretary General of RDA to Finland on 14 August, 2018. We will organize an open event Research Data Breakfast at Tiedekulma in Helsinki. This event brings together research data actors and practitioners in an informal way to discuss the current research data landscape and collaboration possibilities. After the presentations, there is an opportunity to get to know Fairdata and EUDAT services more closely, presented by CSC experts.
Please join us and invite your colleagues to the event!
Welcome to the biannual RDA Finland seminar on 6 June 2018 at the LSC auditorium! This time the theme of the get-together is "RDA and FAIR: supporting Finnish researchers".
We will give a basic introduction to RDA (Research Data Alliance) for potential new participants. After that we will focus on the recent development of FAIR and what will happen at the national scene of open science. In addition, we will hear how RDA activities are supported on the national level.
