Some RDA Terminology discussion for Data Management and Data Fabric

by Gary Berg-Cross

The attached slides by me (Gary Berg-Cross)  were partially presented at the DF IG to cover some of the issues raised by comments on the Paris Data Management paper discussed at P6 Data Fabric session 1. We didn't have time to talk about all of this but the slides present some of the criticism and some responses how we might address some of these by developing additional terms, by broadening concepts and terms and by developing clearer conceptual models to show relations betweee terms.

Reagan Moore comments for each section of Paris Data Management paper

by Gary Berg-Cross

The attached are comments for each section of the paper.  The comments reflect the statements we made today on interoperability, virtualization, and interoperability.   I expect that Data Fabrics will disappear as middleware within 10 years, and move into storage controllers and the Internet.

"Paris Paper"

by Larry Lannom

The document called the Paris Paper that is being discussed in the Wed Data Fabric IG at P6 is not easy to find on the wiki. Happily, it has an identifier. Larry http://hdl.handle.net/11304/f638f422-f619-11e4-ac7e-860aa0063d1f

Repository Registries

by Peter Wittenburg

Dear all, there was not so much activity after a video conference in summer, but we discussed/created a few documents. We asked for a session to discuss with the interested people the Repository Registry issue and it is obvious that we now need to come to concrete actions which means for me to define amongst others a working group. Recent discussions on our summary slides which we are attaching indicate that there is still a request for a debate which is quite natural. During summer we saw a set of very much related type of registries:

Data Fabric Sessions at P6

by Peter Wittenburg

Dear all, attached is the suggestion for the DFIG agenda for P6 - please have a look and prepare contributions. There were quite some discussions about the "paris" document and there was a response from my side to some of the comments made. All can be read on the wiki. During the last weeks there were also intensive discussions about testing and evaluating rda results and accelerating extraction of recommendations and feedback from the tests. In the next communication I will upload a few of them. They will be subject of the discussions as well. best

AW: [rda-datafabric-ig] Use case and requirements gathering for research data repositories by Research Data Alliance IG

by Peter Wittenburg

Hallo Ralph, my first reaction is that we need to make use of the various use cases which already have been collected in the DFT WG, DFIG IG and probably others. It is quite some work for all parties to create the descriptions and to analyse them. Perhaps it is a good way to look at what is out there already (in DFT we had kind of 40 cases in total if I remember correctly) and then contact specific people to get more specific docs. But let me also give you four hints:

Use case and requirements gathering for research data repositories by Research Data Alliance IG

by Ralph Müller-Pfefferkorn

[Apologies if you receive this email through multiple channels] Dear fellow RDA members, On behalf of the Repository Platforms for Research Data Interest Group, I would like to invite you to submit use cases for research data repositories. The charter of this group is to "gather and analyze research data use cases in the context of repository platform requirements. The primary deliverable will be a matrix relating use cases with functional requirements for repository platforms." More details on the group and its work can be found at
