DFIG core session
Dear DFIG members, I finished a very intensive time with this plenary in Denver since I had many other activities in parallel which prevented me to be more active. These will all come to an end during the coming few months. Let me briefly summarise a few major points that were discussed in the DFIG core session. For details you can also look at the attached slides. We elected two new co-chairs: - Bridget Almas from Tufts University US - Li Jianhui from CAS China1 | Add new comment
TeD-T platform back alive

AW: [rda-datafabric-ig][rda-dft][rda-collection-wg] Some thoughts on "Data Aggregations" terminology & concepts
Dear all, the DFIG co-chairs are impressed about the intensive interactions. Due to some events and other tasks we were not yet participating in the debate. Coming event we will come up with some opinions, in particular since we also need to plan the sessions in Denver. best Peter ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Peter Wittenburg Tel: +49 2821 49180 ***@***.*** ; ***@***.***0 | Add new comment

There may be useful analogy to a physical sample that is collected. You have that object at birth with an id, but over time you can add to this and take away from it. The original ID serves a purpose but you may need an ID for the current state of the object at any time there has been change. Reagan, this is a really nice outline. All – I am on this list, but not sure exactly why? I think I was part of the original Data Fabric IG? In any event, I’m jumping in below, with a comment that I think is implicit in the ongoing discussion, but want to emphasize one of Reagan’s below points—about entities can change over time. A collection—viewed as either an object or collection of object (however you like it), is also a convenient grouping, and, yes, can be marked theoretically — at a point in time, although it is not necessarily stagnant.0 | Add new comment

I realize I am not addressing all of the concerns that have been raised, but I wonder if a way to move forward would be something like the definition below: A collection is a digital object which is identified by a PID and consists of a set of digital objects with explicitly defined relationships that are identified in explicitly defined ways. It seems that for the machine actionability in particular, an explicit way of identifying objects and understanding the relationship between them may0 | Add new comment

Assuming that collections can be dynamic, it occurs to me, without giving it a great deal of thought, that the general principles developed in the Dynamic Data Citation WG might answer some of the questions here. I’ll also through in my view on Ulrich’s simple definition below as a decent starting point. Best, Larry0 | Add new comment
