From the front lines of data licensing at a research institution!
by Gail Clement
Dear All, Wishing you all a smooth re-entry from last week's plenary in Montreal. I miss the lobster poutine! The below exchange about data licensing (with requestor anonymized) is a pretty good reflection of the legal confusion and uncertainty facing researchers in today's online data ecosystem. Maybe another resource we could work on is an FAQ covering actual legal interop questions asked and answered? Cheers, Gail Gail P. New Legal Interop resource list on Zotero
by Gail Clement
Dear Colleagues, Please check out this first attempt at a shared online resource of papers, presentations, policies, web sites of interest to Legal interop of research data. It represents resources the IG has created or shared since our inception. All of our email exchanges were culled for links and shares. https://www.zotero.org/groups/1757514/legalinteropdata Your participation is most welcome! You can join zotero.org at no cost, then join the group and add other readings/resources of interest.0 | Add new comment
Re: [rda-legalinterop-ig] Breakout session tomorrow is in Room Mansfield 9
by Gail Clement
Thank you too Melissa, and everyone else at Montreal, who made our Legal Interop session so worthwhile! Fran Berman from RDA Council mentioned it was an excellent program! I'm compiling a Legal Interop reference shelf/ webliography of sorts where we can put all these super helpful resources out there for others to consult. Still figuring out the best options for most stability and access: will get back on this soon! Best wishes, Gail Sent from a tablet while on the go. Using R to manage metadata and promote interoperability (FDI-WG)
Dear IG's / WG's, We would like to invite you to an RDA related event that we believe to be relevant to your activities; "Use R to manage metadata of especially time-series (in our case related to Tuna Fisheries) and comply with OGC standards while using controlled vocabularies." Most of the presented software is Open Source, and we will demonstrate how it can help (you) to manage time-series and geospatial data. We welcome feed-back, and if this of your interest, please consider to join the FDI-WG. You can read details here:0 | Add new comment

1. Speakers, topics, and session structure for Montreal have been finalized and reflected on the official program page at https://www.rd-alliance.org/ig-rdacodata-legal-interoperability-rda-10th.... We are focusing on three case studies in data licensing beyond Creative Commons that are each very compelling and have great synergy amongst them: * Belmont Forum - Dr. Carrie Seltzer; * NIH awardees - Dr. Melissa Haendel;0 | Add new comment
