Workshop on open licenses
by Chris Morris
There are a growing number of web pages offering advice on how to choose an open license for data or code. The advice they give is partly conflicting. This workshop is intended to get together the authors of such pages and others with expertise in this area to clarify the choices.1 | Add new comment

by Simon Hodson
Dear friends and colleagues, CODATA-RDA IG on Legal Interoperability Principles for Research Data, Please find below and attached my notes from this afternoon’s call. I had some audio difficulties so did not follow or note all the substantive discussion around Credit/Attribution, but I think that i have captured all the key decisions. I look forward to seeing those of you who will be in San Diego. With very best wishes, Simon. 15-02-27-Legal Interoperability Group Agenda: 1) Finalise the principles. 2) Discuss the session at RDA.1 | Add new comment

Here, if it helps, are some limited notes on the first part of the discussion and the actions: Continuing discussion of principles Principle 5: Metadata Should narrow the focus to metadata relating to legal issues and rights. Should identify rights holders and usage rights. Should focus on the legal rights and legal issues associated with data. Should recommend that metadata standards include a field for licence and legal restrictions. This could be the subject of a further piece of work for the group.
