Re: CODATA-RDA Legal Interoperability Call, Friday 5 June 2015

by Paul Uhlir

Hi all, In the call today, we will discuss again Enrique's revised G.3 text (included in the attached message) and possibly the next Guideline, if there is time. We will revisit Willi's G.2 text next week, since he is not available for the call this week. We also need to briefly discuss the IG's breakout session plan for P6 in Paris. Should we ask for 1 or 2 1.5-hour sessions? If only 1 session, shall we structure it similarly to the P5 breakout session in San Diego? That

Notes from the May 29th Legal Interoperability IG telcon

by Paul Uhlir

Dear colleagues, Attached are notes from the telcon discussion last Friday. I had to leave the call a bit early so they are incompletre and also are only my draft. Please review them for completeness and accuracy. Also, please send your written comments to Willi Egloff and Enrique Alonso Garcia by this Wednesday. We will have another telcon this Friday at the usual time, probably revisiting the updated draft on G.2 and having a preliminary discussion of G.4 (Christoph Bruch's text). Simon Hodson will send everyone the call-in instructions. Cheers, Paul

Group telcon today in one hour

by Paul Uhlir

Hi all, Just a reminder that we have another call scheduled for the IG on Legal Interoperability of Research Data at our regular time today. We may have fewer people on the call so we will need to see whether we can take the discussion of the Implementation Guidelines in progression. We also need to discuss how we want to propose the breakout session of the IG at the RDA P6 conference in Paris this September (e.g., one or two sessions, main agenda items, procedural issues).

Re: [rda-legalinterop-ig] GEO Data Management Principles

by Paul Uhlir

I agree with Bob's explanation, but let me add that even though the Principles and Guidelines for the Legal Interoperability of Research Data is a group under CODATA and RDA auspices, there is substantial overlap in subject matter and membership with the GEO DSWG, and therefore I hope that GEO will review and endorse them when they are finalized. Cheers, Paul

Fwd: updated Comment -UN draft resolution A/HRC/28/L.27 entitled "The right to privacy in the digital age"

by Jean Bernard Minster

This is FYI…not for action… It does raise a question, though. Does the right to privacy as advocated by the United Nations raise an interoperability issue? It seems that the word privacy has to have different meanings in different socio-political settings, and therefore any “right” to be protected in sharing data will not be handled in any interoperable fashion. GEO Data Management Principles

by Jean Bernard Minster

I notice that none of these principles deal with legal issues and principles that we have been discussing. From the point of view of GEO as an international organization, this seems to me to be a major gap. What to do?
