Short introduction describing the activities and the scope of the group

The sUAS Data IG is focused on identifying the data challenges in using small unmanned aerial systems (sUAS or ‘drones’) for scientific data collection, and fostering collaborations to solve these challenges and realise the full value of this valuable new sensor platform. Up until now we have met three times previously (P9, P10, P11).

Meeting objectives

(1) Connect more with the well established and growing drone community in Africa.
(2) Collect more “drone data challenges” from drone users to compare with our “Drone Data Challenges” paper in progress
(3) Coalesce knowledge gleaned from Flight Week / SciDataCon and plan for Drone Data Hackathon to address data challenges highlighted from drone users during RDA meeting

Meeting agenda

(1) Report back from drone activities before and during International Data Week (e.g. Flight Week, SciDataCon)
(2) Panel of drone users (focus on African drone users) give brief highlights of how they are using drones and their biggest data challenges -- in person or via a “2 slide overview”
(3) Panel input from data experts doing pertinent work addressing these challenges in other domains and in broader contexts from other RDA IG and WGs
(4) Discuss / share plans for Drone Datathon (day after IDW) and beyond

Audience
Please specify who is your target audience and how they should prepare for the meeting
