Re: [secretariat][rda-oab] [secretariat][rda-oab] [rda-oab] OA Issues for Council consideration?

19 May 2016
Groups audience:

So to communicate with the “private” list we send a mail to the OAB chairs and ask them to forward it :-)

(and any polite replies).

Cheers, Jamie

Hi Fotis -

I don’t think so. One has to be a member of the specific group.

You could forward specific emails to another list, but unless all the members are added to the private list, they won’t see anything.

Hi all,
Is there any way to open posts to the private-OAB group from non-members? I guess no, right?

Hi, Fotis,

I was not aware. That certainly limits it's usefulness in providing a channel for OA members or other RDA members to communicate directly with OAB.

How can this be fixed?

Best,
Amy

Hi Amy,
I am afraid that the private group can be used only by the subscribed members (it is an Organic Group part of the website and not a usual mailing list).
Sorry about this
Kind regards,
Fotis

Dear Organisational Assembly members and Affiliates,

I will be representing OA at the Council meeting next week. As many of you have not been able to make it to the last few calls, I wanted to offer one more opportunity for you to raise any issues that you would like to have addressed.

On a related note, rda-oab-private@rda-groups.org is the new email if you would like to communicate just with the Organizational Advisory Board rather than the entire Assembly.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best,
Amy Nurnberger, RDA OAB Co-chair

    Hi,

I want to chime in as well as I might be one of those responsible for the current setup. Every work is going through different (maturity) stages and a group like OA/OAB should of course be open to change its processes when needed.

Originally we decided to keep the mailing list closed as we wanted to have a discussion forum, where we all could express our opinions, sometimes also in a brainstorming way, without needed to be worried that the discussion would lead to misunderstandings outside of the group. At the time the OA/OAB was quite small and I think had its purpose to be a bit restricted, even though the circulated comments about secret and non-transparent groups. As OA is heavily lurking into the company space, where different processes are applied, I think it is not unreasonable to have OA/OAB slightly more closed than possible other groups.

Now OAB is steadily growing and I am not so sure here is much discussion, which could not be shared inside RDA in general. I think having at least the requirement to be an RDA member to read or communicate through the OA/OAB list is a requirement. OA/OAB can and should in fact also look at its own working process and change things, if needed!

    Thanks,
