Post to Group Mailinglist

27 Nov 2013
Groups audience:

Hi,

I want to first thank you all for the good meeting we had yesterday. I have now been informed that we have the group mailing list, which you can access from the "Add content" menu and selectiong "Post to Group Mailinglist". The message is also archived on the main OAB wiki page. The mail address used is to my knowledge the mail address you have used when you have registered at the RDA web site.

It has been challenging to maintain a list of mail addresses to all of you so I apologise if I have forgotten some of you. Now we have all in the list.

Thanks,

-- leif

Thanks, but excuse my ignorance, I could not find the "Add content" menu after having logged in and navigated down to OAB. The only way to access this option was through the link in your mail. I am sure I am missing something and too spoiled from the simple UI of my phone Apps...

    Dear Fabrizio,

thank you for taking the time to review & test the new mailinglist system.

Leif was giving instructions on how to send out a message to the
mailinglist. This can be done in 2 ways:
    1) *directly from the website by doing a Post (to mailinglist)*, menu
under the "Add content" block you can find on the right side of the
group working area. See screenshot below

    2) You can also send a *message from your mailbox* to the group email
(mailinglist) rda-oab@rda-groups.org -> it gets distributed to the
groups subscribers...which is basically what you have done. Just like
    any other mailinglist system.

In both cases all the messages are saved & archived on the group
    working area

*People can reply* to your email either *directly on the website* (add a
comment at the bottom of the page dedicate to that post, you can find
the direct link in the emails you receive from the mailinglist "Full
    post: https://www.rd-alliance.org/post-group-mailinglist.html") or in
*reply to your email* (like you have done) & it gets all saved as a
    thread. See https://www.rd-alliance.org/post-group-mailinglist.html

Let me know if you have other questions or suggestions on how to make
    this more user-friendly.
The system is being implemented as we speak - other functionalities will
soon be made available including a quick access to the full mailinglist
    archive

thank you again & kind regards,
    Timea

Thank you, Timea, for that clarification. One question: what are the
different purposes of the OAB Discussion Forum
    vs. the Group
    Mailinglist ?
I apoligize if I'm the only one unclear on this, I was only invited to
join the iOAB discussion a few days ago.

    Dear Stefan,

thank you for the question, not many take the time to ask so it is much
    appreciated.

The first one, the Discussion Forum, serves as an area for a wider
debate (I always give the example of the group case statements up for
public discussion but it can basically be any topic that needs a more
elaborated public consultation, if you want to call it that). You can
start a new discussion by clicking on the Forum topic menu under the Add
content block on the right side.

The second one the mailing list that supports the group internal
communication - it should be used to inform group members about
important developments, conference calls, events etc basically anything
that could be of interest to the group.

Of course, each group can decide on how to use these tools. These were
foreseen as I tried to explain above.

    Hope this was helpful

Please don't hesitate to contact us should you have any other questions
or need assistance in any way

    Many thanks & kind regards,
    Timea
