AGU Joint Education/ESSI session: ED012: Concepts for Research Oriented Teaching and Data Management in the Digital Age

21 Jul 2017

Dear All, with the usual apologies for cross-posting

Please consider submitting to this session, which is seeking to support better understanding and delivery of research data management skills across disciplines. Deadline for proposals is 2 August, and of course do feel free to ping the conveners if you’d like to discuss this further.

Session ID#: 26662

Session Description:

Science has changed with the digitization of lab equipment and word processing, but did the education of young scientist keep up with the development? These changes can’t be undone, but they come with new demands and obligations for future scientists and their todays teachers. Universities struggle at this point how and when to incorporate these new topics in the curricular of their students and sometimes leave this open to the teachers. Creating dedicated data management courses usually have trouble bridging the cross disciplinary demands and the number of students in these disciplines for the short time of their education.

This session is supposed to provide insights to concepts and experiences facing the institutional problem to teach 25,000 students new and additional methods and technologies within their chosen disciplines.
