RE: IGAD/RDA pre-conference meeting that will be held on March 19-20, 2018 in Berlin, Germany

15 Jan 2018

Hi Imma et al.
I am again asking after the fate of the IGAD Soil Interoperability WG, as it seems to have been left of the agenda.
I recall from your previous response that you consider that since the Soil WG is not actively reporting to IGAD and given the formation of the GODAN WG, that soil no longer sits explicitly within IGAD?
If that is the case then I think it is unfortunate, firstly because IGAD/RDA provides a great connection to broader data and interoperability related discussions for agriculture, and secondly because I am not sure that the GODAN Soil WG is very effective or active.
Perhaps Ben, Fenny and Rainer would like to comment from their GODAN, ISRIC/GLOSIS and GSP perspectives?
Personally I think the soil interoperability standards development activity should be undertaken through our IUSS and GSP initiatives, with standards formalisation through OGC (and maybe an associated ISO approach) with broader communication through RDA and other avenues.
Maybe it is a good time to be thinking about a GLOSIS/GSP Pillar4/5 stakeholders meeting to bring everybody up to speed with the proposed development and interaction of all the initiatives? Timing around the RDA/IGAD (Berlin) and OGC (Orleans) meetings 19-23 could be an opportunity?
I think that without clarity regarding more planned, decisive and resourced activity in the soil standards and GSP pillars and GLOSIS initiatives it will be very difficult to gain any CSIRO support for my attendance at the upcoming meetings.
Best regards
P

--------------------------
Dear all,
I am pleased to invite you to the IGAD pre-conference meeting that will be held on March 19-20, 2018 in Berlin, Germany. The event will take place before the 11th RDA Plenary Meeting, March 21-23, 2018.
The first day of the next IGAD pre-meeting on March 19 will be dedicated to the theme “the FAIR principles to all elements of the research process in agricultural sciences and related disciplines” together with the reporting of the WGs related to IGAD about activities undertaken during the last six months. You can be an active part of the meeting by attending and participating, but also by delivering a short presentation (10’) in relation to the FAIR principles in the agricultural domain and their implementation in your organization and/or network(s). If you are interested, please send the title and a short abstract before the 15th of January 2018.
March 20 will be dedicated to the working groups already associated to IGAD and to those under evaluation, such as “capacity development”. The following are the working groups:
1. Wheat Data Interoperability Working Group
2. Rice Data Interoperability Working Group
3. Agrisemantics Working Group
4. On-Farm Data Sharing Working Group
5. Metrics and Indicators in Agricultural Sciences BoF
6. Capacity Development
Please let us know before the 15th of January 2018 which of the working groups above you would like to join at ***@***.***
Your contribution and involvement in this pre-meeting are welcome!
We are looking forward to meeting you in Berlin,
Imma Subirats, for the Co-chairs of the Interest Group on Agriculture Data (IGAD)

I have a call this week with GODAN to discuss Food Vocab and Semantics
Working Group within GODAN...seems like it would be a good topic at RDA
also. I'll be in Europe and happy to swing by Berlin RDA to present
more...this is a logical extension for the Agrisemantics Working Group but
further down the supply chain...Will send abstract Friday. Thanks for
    extending.
    Happy 2018 to all!
