OGC is working on best practices for using application profiles
of the existing DCAT, in the context of geospatial data. W3C DXWG,
on the other hand, is looking at extending/revising DCAT
    (DCAT-2?). OGC’s efforts will reveal requirements for DCAT-2, I
suspect. But RDA can bring to the table domains other than
geospatial, as well as expertise in various other kinds of
    metadata standards.

With as many things going on in the community, does a jointly sponsored by W3C and RDA for the community at large make sense?

I hope that support can be turned into participation in the DXWG to ensure that DCAT really covers important use cases from a variety of domains. We have over 30 UCs at the moment [1] and the WG is working through them to decide which to include, which are duplicates etc.

Much talk about DCAT at LODLAM here as well. Seems heavily in use in the

It’s an OGC-only group, looking particularly at spatial data. I have
been invited to their meetings and they are well aware of DXWG.
Although the future of this particular work item is unclear, DXWG and
the ongoing and deepening relationship between W3C and OGC gives me
hope that it will go in the right direction.

Thanks for the ‘heads up’. I assume W3C will ensure the work of the
OGC group is wrapped into DXWG.

Calling your attention to the fact that the OGC has also spun up a
group looking at DCAT. They meet today at the OGC TC meetings in
Newfoundland. Agenda and remote connection details are here:

    All –
Just to add to Larry’s message, the W3C/RDA meeting under the
auspices of the EC-funded VRE4EIC project will go ahead. It is
really a planning meeting (a) to make sure RDA group chairs know of
the activity planned for W3C DXWG (Data Exchange Working Group) which
plans to improve DCAT in among work on metadata standards for data
exchange generally; (b) to encourage participation from RDA group
chairs in this activity with the aim of closer cooperation between
    W3C and RDA.
I do hope as many as possible of attendees can stay on for a
relatively short period to be involved.
    Best wishes

    All,
As you know, we had two meetings scheduled for the afternoon of the
14th, after the conclusion of our Chairs’ meeting. They were the
meeting on Commercial Views on Data Sharing and a W3C/RDA
Collaboration discussion led by Phil Archer of W3C and introduced
towards the end of our Chairs meeting proper by Keith Jeffery. The
second of these, W3C/RDA Collaboration, is still in place, and will
be held in the same location as our Chairs’ meeting, but the other
meeting has just been cancelled. So our Chairs’ meeting will be
followed by lunch (which has also moved by 30 minutes to begin at
12:30) and then the W3C meeting.
Also, here is a link to the very nice looking venue: OM OSS
