All,
The attached is the list of registered attendees at the NIST meeting Nov 13-14. It includes everyone who was registered as of Oct 27 (when NIST ran the list) and the one person I know who told me he registered since then. It does not include the NIST attendees. If you think you are registered and you are not on this list, please register as soon as possible and let me know or let me know that you have registered since then. You can't get in if you haven't registered.
I don't know two of the people on the list (both Pearlmans) and they aren't on the meeting mailing list. Are these folks familiar to anyone?
We would like to arrange a group dinner on Thursday night. Sadly, we have no good way to pay for it, so everyone will have to pay for themselves. The are a number of nearby restaurants. Two that have been suggested include
and
http://www.dogfishalehouse.com/
Please let me know if you're interested and we can think about logisitcs. Nothing is really walkable.
The meeting is quite close to the large NIST cafeteria for breaks and lunch on the second day.
Two other notes - you may want to review Wo Chang's logistics note that was sent out a few weeks ago, especially regarding photo ids
https://rd-alliance.org/sites/default/files/RDA_Nov_2014_meeting_logisti...
And finally, if you are staying at the nearby Hilton, and don't plan on renting a car, please let me know and we will try to make sure that everyone has a ride into the NIST campus. Check the logistics note mentioned above to make sure you have the right kind of id to get into the campus.
Looking forward to seeing you in Gaithersburg,
Larry

Sure Larry - a group dinner would be fine and we can pay of course.
Just a short question; Given that we rent a car, can we get into the campus as well or park outside?

Larry,
Having a dinner together would be fine.
I think I don’t know any of the Pearlmans.
I will rent a car and will stay at the Hilton.
According to google maps the north entrance of NIST is less
then 1 mile from the Hilton. Thus I think walking will be
possible and I will need the exercise.
Looking forward to our meeting

The NIST campus is set up pretty much assuming you are arriving by car. If you are driving you park in a small lot outside of the gatehouse, check in, get a badge, and then drive through the gate and park near whatever building is assigned to your meeting. The clerk checking you in will give you a campus map and tell you how to get there.

Hi,
I'm also staying at the Hilton and would need some form of transport.
Also for the Italian restaurant if we go there. I can happily join

A number of people at the nearby Hilton have said they would prefer to walk to the meeting. The distance is not a problem for dedicated walkers but I worried about the paths. John Henry Scott provided the definitive answer:
Hi Larry,
At the moment it is reasonable to walk from the Hilton to NIST's main gate (Gate A).
As Rainer points out the distance is not bad, but until recently it was a dangerous walk because there were no sidewalks where Perry Parkway passes underneath the CSX train tracks at this location. Now there are nice sidewalks at that underpass as well as the other potential trouble spot for pedestrians, the point where Diamond Ave passes under I270. The current Street View on Google maps is up to date and shows the walking path in both cases.
I live 1200 meters from NIST, not too far from the Hilton, and I have personally walked the exact path meeting attendees might take. Please feel free to share any of the above information with your mailing list.

In case you haven't found it on the visitor's page, it is possible to get to NIST on public transportation if you are staying elsewhere in the DC area.
This from the NIST visitors page
NIST Grounds and Metro Shuttle Service
A NIST shuttle service runs between the Shady Grove Metro Station and NIST on the quarter hour and three-quarter hour from 6:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. The shuttle returns to the station from NIST on the hour and half-hour from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Further information on pick up points for the NIST Metro Shuttle.
