Possible WG on the “Governance of Brokering middleware”

05 Feb 2014
Groups audience:

In science, Brokering architectures introduce a new (middleware service) framework that does not belong either to the Data Producer’s or to the User’s Communities. Its governance and sustainable operation emerges as a clear challenge.

With the introduction of brokering in major information system initiatives, addressing the issues of governance is important at this time.

At the next coming  Plenary, the Brokering IG is organizing a session to discuss this challenge, presenting important experiences from significant programs, such as GEOSS and Earth Cube.

The final goal is to establish a WG on the “Governance of Brokering middleware”.

Members interested in attending the session and/or being part of the WG are kindley asked to post a message and, possibly, to join the teleconference which will be organized before the Plenary.

    Stefano, Jay and Max,

Great Idea! This is a very important issue that emerging national and global infrastructures must address. I would like to suggest that the scope of the proposed WG be broadened to include all software elements that are expected to become a "common good" or universal service in support of science, applications or policy making.  Hence, I suggest for a draft WG topic: "Governance of Middleware Supporting Trans-Disciplinary Infrastructures".  A goal for the meeting in Dublin would be to draft a Case Statement for this WG.
