RDA for the Social Sciences - Report

To give an overview of the RDA work that is specifically interesting for social sciences researchers, Ricarda Braukmann from Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS) - the national RDA node for the Netherlands and RDA ambassador for the social sciences and humanities - performed an analysis assessing the relevance of the RDA work for this specific community. The analysis performed should be seen as a starting point for science researchers that are new to the RDA and wish to receive some guidance through the large amount of work and topics covered by the RDA. Member Spotlight: Kathryn Unsworth, Outreach Librarian at CSIRO

For the month of August 2018, we are featuring Kathryn Unsworth, Outreach Librarian at the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), an independent Australian federal government agency responsible for scientific research. Kathryn is co-chair of the RDA Exposing DMPs Working Group and member of many other interest groups. At CSIRO, Kathryn’s main role is to connect and build relationships with researchers and the professional staff to ensure they are aware of the services and support the Library offers (information resources, data management, internal publications, citation analysis and impact) and get the best out of these services, when and where they need them.

According to Kathyrn,“I’d been interested in DMPs, their value to researchers, institutions, funders and whether they achieved what they were designed to do – improve the management of research data. Having co-facilitated the DMP Interest Group in Australia, the step into an RDA working group seemed synergistic, particularly as the Exposing DMPs working group was formed.” When asked about her experience with RDA so far, she tells us “The experience has been very rewarding! I’m working with really switched on folk in the Exposing DMP Working Group. I also feel I have been able to contribute in real ways even though the paid job gets in the way much of the time” Read the full interview
